TB Case-Finding

Rain, test cartridges, and the volunteers who show up anyway

Rain, test cartridges, and the volunteers who show up anyway

Screening numbers for TB case-finding grew from 74 people in 2024 to 746 in 2025, with six people testing positive and starting treatment. Behind that growth were church sensitisations, market outreach, and volunteers who kept working through the rainy season with no more protection than what they carried themselves.

We lost some volunteers to post-training drop-out, and delayed lab results from cartridge shortages meant a few people waited longer than they should have for answers. Our fix has been low-tech but effective: closer relationships with lab teams at Kasoa Polyclinic and Winneba Municipal Hospital, and a standing request for raincoats before the next wet season starts.
